Take centre stage among the sporting elite"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"6c37\" class=\"graf graf--h3 graf--leading graf--title\">England Netball &#8211; Take centre stage among the sporting elite<\/h1>\n<p>Back in April, thousands of English netball supporters sat in the dark at 4am, waiting for the Netball Final of the Commonwealth Games \u2013 hoping England would take it to the Aussies and make it a good game.\u00a0 We hoped, prayed and wished for a win \u2013 but with the home team producing several strong performances and dominating the international scene, it seemed a difficult task.\u00a0 It was a great game &#8211; the Vitality Roses definitely took it to the Aussies and history was made.\u00a0 The netball world order had shifted and we will all remember where we were the moment Helen Housby sank the final goal and all screaming and running around our living rooms at 5 in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sky-News-Helen.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9248 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sky-News-Helen-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Image &#8211; Sky News<\/p>\n<p>What we witnessed was a team of women who dug deep, they weren\u2019t phased when they went behind, they weren\u2019t pushed off the ball in a physical game and they took every opportunity they earned and were sometimes given.\u00a0 With a new coaching team and a centralised \u2013 they were doing things differently and it worked.\u00a0 This was the result of years of hard work from the players, the coaching staff and the governing body.\u00a0 They had worked tirelessly for this moment, they wanted it, deserved it and they took it with both hands.<\/p>\n<p>In the netball world \u2013 we knew this was huge!\u00a0 The players were superstars and amongst ourselves we celebrated the achievements of this team and coaching staff \u2013 they had changed the netballing landscape and inspired generations.\u00a0 More girls took to the courts to learn the game and thousands of women dusted off the netball kit and found themselves a team \u2013 England Netball saw an increase in participation of 130k in just 3months.\u00a0 Since that Gold medal, Nike have been announced as the England Netball kit sponsor, Sport England committed to further investment and Vitality signed a huge sponsorship deal.\u00a0 Netball had moved into the spotlight and last night was the opportunity to shine on the world stage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9250\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9250\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Comms-England.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Comms-England-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9250\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo credit:\u00a0 FRANCOIS-XAVIER MARIT\/AFP\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, the Vitality Roses stood proudly on the stage in front of the international sporting elite.\u00a0 Every long journey they made for a game, the juggling of studying and full time jobs with training, every sprint that hurt, the pain of losing, the injuries and the setbacks \u2013it was all worth it.\u00a0 They will have remembered the first match they won, their first teammates, the coach who introduced them to the game and most off all their parents, family and friends who supported them through every selection, every victory and every loss \u2013it all led them to here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/TEAM-SPOTY.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9249 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sistersnsport.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/TEAM-SPOTY-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thenetballshow?lang=de\">The Netball Show<\/a> &#8211; it was their time, their turn and they deserved to win &#8211;\u00a0but most all they belonged.\u00a0 Women&#8217;s sport was centre stage in the arena of sporting greatness and they had their place &#8211;
