NETBALLher Initiative Supports Girls & Women To Get Sporty

The benefits of playing sport for girls are numerous, from physical fitness to enhanced self esteem and the opportunity to make new friends. At our Kingston netball classes, we aim to create a fun and supportive environment where girls can develop new skills and grow in confidence.

This ethos is reflected in a wider initiative to encourage women and girls to develop a lifeslong love of sport, known as NETBALLher. The scheme was launched in April 2023 to better educate and support women and girls who play sports, and help them stay well informed about the health issues that affect them across all life stages.

Research has shown that during their teenage years, almost half of girls take a break from playing sports such as netball, or stop playing altogether. The scheme provides expert advice and resources to help girls understand better how to adapt to their body’s changing needs, from puberty to the menopause. A new advisory board has been set up this year.

England Netball CEO Fran Connolly commented: “The NETBALLHer Advisory Board is crucial for guiding England Netball into an exciting new era. Their leadership and expertise will help shape the future of the sport, ensuring we continue to push boundaries and create lasting impact for women and girls across all levels and life stages of netball and beyond.”

NHS GP and member of the Advisory Board Dr Helen Kini added: “I am really excited to be part of this Advisory Board alongside such inspirational leaders. I am passionate about the power of physical activity for both our mental and physical health and I am keen to support girls and women to engage and remain active throughout all their life stages.”
