As a leading provider of netball classes in Cheshire, we help youngsters to stay active even when they are taking a well-earned break from the routine of school. If you are missing weekly training sessions and want to keep your skills sharp over the summer holidays, we’ve put together some tips and tricks for you.
Practise ball handling skills
One of the easiest ways to maintain netball skills at home is through daily ball work. Practising chest passes, bounce passes, and overhead passes against a wall helps develop hand-eye coordination and accuracy. Even 10–15 minutes a day can make a difference – and it’s great fun too. Try these moves:
- Chest pass against a wall: 20 reps
- Bounce pass: 20 reps
- Overhead pass: 20 reps
- Add movement: try catching and pivoting before passing again
Focus on footwork and pivoting
Good footwork is essential in netball. Practising pivoting, landing, and changing direction will help you to stay agile and game-ready. All you need is a small space in the garden or even indoors. Drills to try:
- Two-footed land and pivot
- One-step sprint and stop
- Side shuffles for agility
- Ladder footwork drills (draw your own on the pavement with chalk)
Stay active with other sports and games
Aerobic exercise is a great way to stay fit while keeping things fun. Activities like swimming, skipping, cycling, or even dancing improve stamina, coordination, and fitness levels.
Try outdoor games that involve sprinting, catching, or teamwork: anything that mimics netball movement patterns will help maintain performance.
With the England team making a spectacular comeback to win the final of Euro 2025, girls might even be inspired to try out some football – just as long as it doesn’t replace netball as your true love!
