Baroness Sue Campbell Sets Out To Raise Netball’s Profile

Netball is a fun and rewarding sport for girls and women of all ages, helping to build physical fitness and agility as well as teamwork and social skills. At our Wandsworth netball classes, girls will be given expert tuition in the techniques and tactics of the game, as well as the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

In recent years, Netball England has been working hard to raise the profile of the game. This process is set to receive a further boost as Baroness Sue Campbell has been named as the new chair, starting her role in January 2025, Yahoo News reports.

The 76-year old has been credited with the burgeoning popularity of women’s football following a highly successful stint as the FA’s director for the women’s game since 2016. During this time, a real sense of excitement has built around the Lionessess, culminating in their journey all the way to the final of the World Cup in 2023.

Now, Baroness Campbell intends to work her magic on netball. She explained: “When I went into football in 2016, women’s football wasn’t regarded as a particularly important part of the strategy. Now it is central to the strategy of the FA, so it is a very different context to be working in a governing body where the predominant force is the men’s game.

“The difference now in netball is that it is a women’s game, run by women for girls and women. There is a massive financial and commercial difference for netball and I think they are very different sports.”

Baroness Campbell emphasised the importance of sport for teenage girls, who are on average much less physically active than their male peers. She also explained that netball is collaborative and good for boosting mental health.
