Comfortable Junior Netball Kits Help Girls Perform Better

Once upon a time, the rules around netball kits for schools were super-strict, with girls only having the option of wearing uncomfortable stiff tunics and short skirts.

Today, we know that having a comfy junior kit comes in many shapes and forms, but it’s now proven that uniform flexibility also makes girls more attracted to the sport, and perform better, too.

Research from a Victoria University survey showed that girls participate less in sports if they feel self-conscious in their uniforms, with 85% of respondents preferring shorts and T-shirts during outside school sports, and 76% wanting their sporty uniform to make them feel ready to play.

11 year-old Sienna Vivian said the choice was easy, as when she used to play netball in a dress she’d get distracted trying to pull it down, and the dress was also shorter on her than on other players because she was taller.

“As soon as we got the option, I knew I wanted to wear shorts because I’ve just always worried about my dress flying up,” Sienna said. “I can always change next season if I don’t like it.”

Because of Covid disrupting the season, Sienna’s only just played her first game in her new uniform—and loved it.

“I felt much more comfortable,” she said, “and I think I played the best game I’ve ever played in my whole life.”

And that’s what it’s all about—when you feel comfortable in your junior netball kit, you have the confidence to go into every game feeling like you can achieve anything.
