How Do You Find Your Netball Position?

If you are just getting into the game of netball, you might be starting to think about which position on the team would suit you best. This might not always be an easy question to answer! However, there are a few points to consider, which might help you make up your mind. Let’s take a look!

Do you like running?

If you love running, then you will be suited to a Centre, Wing Defence, or Wing Attack position. These positions require speed, stamina, and agility to make fast and accurate passes.

The Centre in particular will need to be a strong runner, as they are allowed to move anywhere on court, apart from the shooting circles. They are often the shorter players on a team, because they have a lower centre of gravity, and can turn and move on a penny. They also need to be quick thinking and creative.

How tall are you?

Goal Keepers and Goal Shooters are usually the tallest players on the side, as the height helps when jumping for the ball and making shots.

Goal Sooters and Goal attacks are responsible for goal scoring, so you’ll need strength, agility, and accuracy. You will also need to be mentally resilient and stay calm under pressure. Goal Attacks need to be good at reading the game, to anticipate the direction of play, and be able to make quick and direct passes.

Are you a great communicator?

Goal Keepers and Goal Defence need to be strong willed and determined, with great reactions. The two players need to be able to communicate with each other well, keeping all positions covered and making sure the work is shared between you.
